  1. Make A Toast

Collaboration animation, I was responsible for sound and music production and mixing.

About the background:

The animator said: During the Spring Festival family dinner, many people sat around the dining table, including parents, parents’ friends, and various relatives, creating a lively atmosphere. During the meal, due to customary reasons, an uncle stood up and raised his glass, saying, “Here, let me propose the first toast (some words of blessing).” Then my father signaled for me to stand up and toast everyone. I stuttered and couldn’t speak well, making the atmosphere awkward. In the eyes of parents, toasting is not just a formality but also an important way to display the family’s dignity and children’s upbringing. For children, such scenes are always embarrassing and frustrating. They have to comply with their parents’ expectations even if they don’t want to. These toasting words are merely empty phrases for children, lacking genuine emotion. In the end, as the dinner concluded, I wondered: Why do I have to do this? I don’t even know these people, and these words mean nothing to me. At this traditional drinking table, children are forced to play a role that doesn’t belong to them, filled with struggle and helplessness. Perhaps, we should reconsider this toasting culture, making it more attuned to children’s true feelings in its transmission, allowing them to grow up in a more relaxed and liberated environment. This animation aims to convey that we need to respect tradition while also respecting children. Let toasting be a sincere form of communication rather than a rigid ceremony.

Feedback:

There are two parts I think need a slight adjustment. Firstly, the suona – there’s a gesture of trying out the sound, adding a few trumpet-like blows to it, creating a sense of urgency, then starting to play. And the music played can be tweaked to be a bit more cacophonous (like it’s bursting, a bit comical?). Secondly, the fly part – could have a gradual increase/decrease in intensity, with that 3D surround sound buzzing around the ears.

Then, for the part where the hair is being rubbed at the beginning, could the sound effects be a bit more pronounced? It’s that rubbing sound, like a swift motion, and for the sound of wind, when the curtains are blowing up, make the wind louder, and when the curtains come down, make the wind quieter.

Feedback:

At around 14 to 15 seconds, the SuoNa sound decreases a bit too early. It could be like it’s being blown just right, and then there’s a sudden interruption from the wind, causing a few abrupt breaks.

Update2(clip):

First Edition Sound:

Feedback:

At the one-minute mark, after the fly flies away, in the silent moment, we can bring in the buzzing of the airplane a bit earlier and softer, gradually increasing. The sound doesn’t necessarily start when the airplane appears. Then, the sound of paper should be louder than the airplane’s sound, and as the airplane approaches, its sound should become louder than the paper’s sound. Add a bit more bustling noise at the firefighter part, maybe some voices. The sound of the cup hitting the ground seems to be off, it’s too early. The sound of water should also gradually come in, a bit slower.

Final Update:

Requirements:

The entrance of the white noise in the beginning (gradual increase – decrease), then the white noise continues. The sound effect for this old man needs to be changed, it’s a bit too sharp. Add some strokes and small table tapping sound effects.
